Hiatus is the story of Michael and Frank, two men whose lives have taken disparate paths, and yet whose love for each other ultimately reunites them. After the loss of his wife, and to the shock of his grown children, Sebastian and Helenne, Michael finds himself falling back in love with Frank, whose affections he forsook nearly forty years ago.
Upon the revelation that Michael has terminal cancer, this new relationship puts Frank, Michael, and his entire family to the test.
These two men must weather the hardships of grief, regret, and repression as they strive to make the most of whatever time Michael has left.

I read other reviews that were upset that there were "no sex scenes" in this romance novel, but nowhere did this book mention it was erotica. I'm actually quite glad there weren't any sexual scenes since it focuses much more on the bond and chemistry Michael and Frank have. There's a really great storyline here, and often times I find books can really get bogged down by the sex scenes. I found Hiatus to be a really moving story, since it touches on a lot of issues that many people have to deal with in life--illness, cancer, depression, etc. Very realistic and I really enjoyed this book!

Hiatus eBook Belangela G Tarazona Reviews

This is an unusual love story (in a good way) that's also a tragedy. After Michel's wife Nadja dies of breast cancer, Frank (his ex-lover from summer camp in 1974) attends the funeral to reconnect, although Michael is now dying from terminal cancer of his own. This is an enjoyable tragedy with lots of ups and downs and is definitely unique from anything I've ever read before.
What really irked me about this story was the ending. I guess I wanted more drama
We are proud to announce that HIATUS by Belangela G. Tarazona is a B.R.A.G.Medallion Honoree. This tells a reader that this book is well worth their time and money!
I loved this novel for its lack of contrivance and insightful prose. I always think this genre is a bit hit and miss with novels ranging from the exceptional to the damn right awful. Hiatus is without a doubt exceptional. The narrative is a joy to read and one to be savoured as little by little we are drawn into the lives of Michael and Frank. In many ways they are unconventional characters, but they are so well depicted that they could be neighbours. The story itself is bitter sweet with highs and lows and one of the best books I have had the pleasure of reading this year.
Tarazona is an expert at word craft and has woven together a beautiful, heart-tugging romance unlike anything I’ve ever read before. This is the first time I’ve ever read a gay romance and I usually wouldn’t touch the genre unless it carried some literary weight to it. After reading a few chapters, I already want to rate this book five stars because it is very well-written, almost poetic.
Frank has kept his sexual orientation buried most of his life due to his oppressive father. He married a well-known female writer and had two children. But his whole life is turned upside down when his wife passes away from cancer and he finds himself struggling with the same disease.
The fact that the main characters in this romance are both men should not at all turn you away from this gem of a book. Both characters are convincingly portrayed, each struggling with their own demons. This book is not about sex - it’s about character dynamics and family drama. Ultimately this is a complex work of art featuring real life struggles, and isn’t a piece about the sexual chemistry between the lovers so much as their battles, both against cancer and against social prejudice. 5/5 stars. Highly recommended!
This book was a fantastic read, it took me through a gamut of emotions from crying to laughing and from angry to disappointed and from elation to grief. This author does an outstanding job of bringing the characters to life in our hearts. Michael and Frank were so much in love that it hurt but there struggle to be together no matter the odds was a wonderous story to read and feel. Love, Love, Loved It!! 2 Thumbs Way Up for this author!!
